can someone tell me just what was the Mari exp It is mentioned on soldiers documents i havefrom 1880

The Mari punitive expedition was against the tribes of the Mari country on the North West frontier that provided many troubles to the supplies colums during the Second Afghan War. I have an Afghanistan War Medal to a man from 2/60 th that after the end of the war in 1880 was transferred in the Mari Country as occupation force.
