Thomas STANBRO / STANBRA, 80th Foot 2nd Anglo-Burmese War

Postby Mark » 30 Jun 2012 22:05

Dear All

Do any of our members have a subscription to Find My Past who would be willing to help me out? I am currently trying to research a Thomas Stanbro (also seen spelt Stanbra) of the 80th Regiment of Foot who fought in the Second Anglo-Burmese War. So far on Ancestry I 'think' I have located the correct 1861 and 1871 Census images for him. However, I was wondering if his service records may have survived?

Thank you in advance!

Mark

Hi Mark

I have only recently subscribed to FMP so am pleased to get my monies-worth.

There is a service record to your man, Regt No.3269, born @1817, Fenny Compton, Banbury, Oxfordshire. Burma Medal confirmed, but he also looks to be entitled to the Sutlej Medal with clasps for Moodekee and Ferozeshurhur.

Interesting stuff, Martin! Many thanks for that. I will check out the Sutlej Medal roll too.

I have his service records (4 pages) which you are welcome to have an electronic copy of. No family connection.

As far as I know he was entitled to the Sutlej Medal and India General Service Medal. Other than his service records and a copy of the South Staffords regimental history I don't know any extra details. He will be a future research project for me when time permits.
