Although outside the scope of this forum I still think it appropriate to ask members to spare a thought for the souls that were lost when the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at 23:40 hours on this day 100 years ago. Over the next few hours over 1500 men, women and children lost their lives in this tragic accident.
No doubt some of the crew of the Titanic saw service in our period of interest in the Royal Navy and elsewhere. Indeed Captain Smith himself made several voyages to South Africa transporting troops to fight in the Boer War. For this he received the Transport Medal with South Africa clasp - see photo below.
If you know of any other Titanic victims or survivors who fought or otherwise served during Victoria's Wars please do post information below.
