Dorsets in the Boer War

Postby pittpiper » 30 Mar 2012 02:06

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone had, or could lead me to, some quality photographs of the Dorsetshire Regiment in South Africa.

Thank you

There are several good photographs in "The Dorsetshire Regiment" by Terry Bishop, published by Tempus ISBN NO 0 7524 1847 5 . This is a photographic record of the regiment and is well worth the purchase. Trooper

Hello, send me your email and I can email you two group photos, one of the officers of the 2nd Dorsetshire and one of the NCO's.
Both pictures show them wearing swords. Found on pages 219 and 220 of "Transvaal War Album" edited by Commander C.N. Robinson, R.N., (Of the ":navy & Army Illustrated.").

Will,

Thank you. I was able to acquire a copy of the Transvaal War Album through inter-library loan. It is an excellent resource. Do you happen to know if anyone has reprinted this? I was sent an original copy by the library. I would like to own it, but I assume originals are rather pricey.

Hello Sam, I have an original copy also. Can't remember what I paid for it but was not much, but when you want to find something and not wait, it costs more. I think a reprint would be costly with all the photos. You can take good digital photos of the book, just set up a stand with good lighting so the pages don't reflect.

Will,

Using a good quality scanner I was able to make some great digital copies of the pages.

Thanks,
