Many thanks for allowing me to join this forum,
I was given the forum details after having a question
re-good conduct badges.
My main areas of interest are the Crimean, Indian Mutiny,
and Boer War, as I had two ancestors who for in those campains
I was recently able via findmypast to get a service record for one
and medal entitlement for the other, it was the service record which
mentioned the GCbadges.
again many thanks Andrew

After speaking with the museum curator of his regiment, the Cheshires, it was concluded that he may have been a victim of accidental death as there was no record of him being in the regimental hospital. I found this unsettling as he wrote in his final letter home that he didn't think he would be seeing England again. As he was a young man of 26 and an experienced soldier, this struck me as worth looking into. I wonder if others have found the same thing or can shed any light on this type of "accident"?Jane

I've been doing backward research to identify a gentleman in a painting. I have found good information on this site and hope to post a photo with question after I have found out more.
