Pte SNELLING, 1st Batt Rifle Bde, Singapore 1897

I am looking for information on a Private Snelling of the 1st Btn Rifle Brigade. He was up in Court in Singapore in June 1897, and was convicterd and sentenced on a charge of theft.( Straits Times June 29 1897) How can I find out his first name or initials, an indication of age, place of origin etc? I'm not very experienced with military history and would value some advice.
