Pte W BROWN, 1/13th Foot South African wars, WWI?

Hi,

I'm new at this, so forgive me if I am sending this to the incorrect place. I would like to know how I can learn about a Pte. W. Brown. He was in the 1/13 Foot in the South African Wars (1878-9) and possibly WWI.

If he was in WWI then try ancestry.co.uk and search the WWI service and pension papers. Otherwise it is a visit to The National Archives in London to check out the muster rolls, medal rolls and maybe the Victorian era discharge papers.

Just to add to your confusion, there are four men listed in the 1st/13th for the 1877-8-9 campaign medal roll: Pte. 36th Brigade/260 W. Brown; Pte. 36th Brigade/1298 W. Brown; Pte. 36th Brigade/574 W. Brown & Pte. 1st/13th/2077 W.J. Brown.
