Ensign Walter Fane and the 2nd Punjab Cavalry

I believe Fane joined this regiment in 1849 and left in 1858/9 but haven't been able to confirm the actual dates. Can anyone supply these?

Walter Fane
Season of Appointment 1845
11th Madras Native Infantry
Ensign in the Army 21st June 1845
Ensign in the Regiment 10th December 1845
Adjutant - 3rd Punjab Cavalry - Date of Appointment 18th May 1849

By 1858 he was a Lieutenant and 2nd in Command of the 3rd Punjab Cavalry, date of appointment 9th April 1857.
By 1861, Lieutenant Walter Fane (11th MNI) was Commandant Fane's Horse, which was raised January 1860, his date of appointment as Commandant 11th January 1860.

Many thanks. I had no idea he was with the 3rd Punjab IC! That sends me off in a totally other direction of research :) I wonder if my sources have confused Fane with his deputy in Fanes Horse, Lt. H.C Cattley?

The 3rd Punjab don't appear to have seen much active service in the years 1849-1859. Given his commanding officer's long absences he must have been in command for much of that time.
