The following battle map of Kirkeban 1885 was taken from "Battles of the Nineteenth Century - Vol II" Cassels &Co 1897.

Thanks uzbashi for posting this particular map, as a South Staffordshire Regiment collector I can appreciate this action. Indeed it was the South Staffords along with the Black Watch that played the main part in this battle.

Roconn

In case of no joy, (looks like it's corrupted), there is an excellent contemporaneous (colour) map of Kirbekan - the best I've ever seen - in Go Strong into the Desert.

Dear Roconn

I'm glad you asked that because I think Amazon is saying April, but although I am going full out at present, I don't think this is realistic. I'm doing my best, but I think we're probably talking third quarter. I have a lot of things competing for time at present, including a big flap in the day job and a PhD thesis. I also have a commission after this one for which I'm doing the fieldwork. If it's any consolation what I've got so far is looking pretty good (I would say that wouldn't I !!) and I have some interesting new material on Abu Klea, in particular, and a few new ideas about the evidence surrounding the battle.

But thanks for asking...I hate being behind time, but at least VWF members and their chums will know not to hold their breath. I've written 4 books in 5 years so far, and counting the forthcoming one 5 in 6 years. If I could do it any faster I would...but.....I can't!

As ever

Dear Mike:

3rd 1/4 sounds OK -- My reading list of the 85 campaign is growing and requires additions. Thanks for the update and will pass the info on to others.

cheers
