Did you make it yourself or have it made? I'm curious because an accurate reproduction is hard to find.

Hi Guys,

I just ran into this thread whilst searching up bell tents.

I am from Canvas and Cast and we make Bell Tents in the Traditional Style... No plastic guy ropes or sliders, a Canvas ground sheet (if you go for the luxury grouns sheet), and heavy 350g Canvas for the actual manufacture of the Bell Tent.

My question to you guys is : Is our tent historically correct in relation to what you are using in Historical Recreations of Campaigns? It would be really good for us to be able to add this fact to our website! How can we work out if this is so?

hope to hear back from you soon...

For the reenactments of Alma Battle here in Ukraine we extremely need Bell Tents.

I know they are available both in the USA and UK. But the postage is VERY expensive that's why we decided to made them here using our local made canvas as well as other tent materials.

Well, does anyone can hel me with detailed images, patterns, drawings or anything else which will be useful in the reproduction process?

Thanks ahead and warm regards from Ukraine!!!

Max

Damn Max......

Why did you not post this at least a year earlier......

I sold at a local gun / military show just over a year ago a set of plans on how to make Bell and Mess tents.......

There was a folder with the tent and uniform patterns in it that I had obtained from an old collector.......

Stan, as soon as possible. We have 1 year ahead of us for the next Alma Battle but you know time flies so quick.

Thanks!

Thanks, but this photo is general and it really doesn't help much in sewing the tent. Though thanks for posting!

Hello,
I hope that this link helps. It is taken from a book called Popular Mechanics (excellent if you can get a copy)
It gives instructions and plans. I think that the best thing maybe to try first with a small scale attempt (say 1/4 size) just to work out any difficulties and the practicalities before doing a full size version.
Good luck,
Al
