Why I joined the Victorian Wars Forum

Postby davidwpease » 03 Jun 2010 18:07

I have been researching my family tree for about 35 years but wrongly believed that my family connections with any conflict were confined to one cousin who died in WW1 and his nephew who died in WW2. My Great Great uncles father in law lived his final years in Lord Leycester's Hospital, in Warwick and I have a Victorian photograph, probably taken in Swansea, of my Great Grandfather in uniform.

But with the large range of documents from the National Archives on line, I have found a further 7 members who served in the Army in the Victorian period. The Service Records give details of their campaign medals and where they served. Although I have been interested in history for as long as I can remember, my knowledge of military history is very sketchy. I have a lot to learn and hopefully this is the place to find out.

This cite came very well recommended by "Who Do You Think You Are? Issue 31 February 2010 page 64. :D

Hi David

A warm welcome the forum! Glad to hear you found us via the "Who Do You Think You Are" magazine! We were delighted to hear a little while back that we were featured in one of the monthly editions in a small way.

If you want to learn about the different campaigns your ancestors took part in during the Victorian period you have most certainly come to the right place. Do you have any details of what regiments and wars your ancestors may have fought in? Even if they did not see active service there is a lot to learn about serving at home and in the various garrisons Britain had around the world or on the high seas.

I look forward to reading your posts.

Mark :)
