WTB: British Snider MK II or MK III Rifle

Postby 19thranker » 05 Jan 2018 01:27

Hi All,
Trying to put the finishing touches on my British Infantry impression c. 1868-71 and am in the market for a Snider Rifle, either a MK II or MK III. I’m in the US, hopefully someone out there has one they want to turn loose of, thanks, Mike

19th,
Worth posting a WTB on the Gunboards and the Milsurps Snider forums.
Also, worth looking at the IMA ex-Nepal Sniders, and read what owners have said about them on those forums and on British Militaria forums.

I’ve put this up everywhere I could think, I guess those that have them are not turning them loose, and I know of no gun shops in the US that would carry them.....really need a British one for the impression I’m doing. The Nepal ones, for condition, to me are now overpriced at IMA and once you tack on the “picked” fee of $75, you are looking at $850 before shipping and you still have to do something with it.
Hopefully one will turn up.

Thanks guys for all the sources, it seems everyone is sold out on Sniders, would like to find one here in the US for sale, but I understand it is not too difficult to get one in from Canada. The search continues......

Should be able to get a Canadian one at a show for $500-$600. Prices have dropped and it's hard to sell a Snider.
Condition is key. Always take one into the sunlight to view the blueing etc. Can also bring a LED light with you.
If parts of the wooden stock have black stains this means the rifle has had poor storage and rusted a fair bit, may be cleaned up so take a good look at the line where the barrel contacts the stock, look for pitting.
There are so many good ones why buy a lesser one?

Great advice Will on checking one out. Alas, I'm down in Texas, don't think I can hit many Canadian gun shows from here, but your price spread is about what I've seen in ones that have sold.
