Nice site. The spine pad info was great as I have often marveled at this really useless piece of equipment. The turkish helmet info is great.
The Guatemala Police helmet is truly a sun helmet and not a white bobbys helmet in diguise like my white New Zealand police helmet.
I think the "one of a kind" quilted, neck curtain of the 21st Lancers at Omdurman were either modified spine pads or spine pad material purpose built for tha lancers. I have never seen the 21st Lancer style full helmet, 360 degree cover on any other units helmet. And the neck curtain was never officialy issued until the 20th century. Good info on your site.

The neck curtain worn by the 21st Lancers at Omdurman is a carry over from their last post in India 1887-1896 when they were still designated 21st Hussars (Lancers April 1897). During the various campaigns fought on the Frontier from 1888-1898 it was not uncommon to see various types of neck curtain in use by various branches of service.

The attached photo shows the 2nd A&SH on the Frontier in the Tochi Valley, several are wearing the identical neck curtain as the 21st did at Omdurman. Photo from Michael Barthorp's "The Frontier Ablaze"

I submitted a brief study of the the British Officer in South Africa 1899-1902, on Peter Suciu and Stuart Bates website: Military Sun Helmets.com. This is a condensed version of a much larger work I have undertaken over several years that will focus on all ranks, as well as Imperial Yeomanry and Colonial forces on active service during the 2nd Anglo Boer War, and much of the 1888-1902 period as well.
