info on hamburger, rogers, & co. sword

Postby dan.sedulous » 03 Jun 2012 21:56

I bought this sword years ago at a flea market, but know very little on it outside of the name "Hamburger, Rogers, & Co." on the blade right before the hilt. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please see the link for photos.

Thanks!
Dan

Hi Dan,

It's a court or dress sword, and Hamburger Rogers used this naming style between 1840 and 1917. Typically used at social or ceremonial occasions, this style of sword is still in use today (by Lords Lieutenant of counties and such) - it harks back to swords of a much earlier age and is not intended for fighting.

Hope this helps,

John
