Swords: 1897 IO's sword with initials RJCK numbered 62075

hello im a new member and i am hoping someone help me . i have a 1897 infantry officers sword with initials R.J.C.K at the top of the blade and also the numbers 62075 on the edge of the blade at the top of the blade also . Is it possible to obtain more info and history from these markings ?

Hello,

You don't say who the maker is: if it's a Wilkinson, then the serial number dates it to 1930. If not, then the number won't give you any useful information.

HOWEVER... :)

I did find a Lieutenant R.J.C Kenny in the 1937 Army List, a Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment. His promotion date is given as 30 March 1933, so it's quite plausible that his first commission as a 2nd Lieutenant was in 1930, fitting in nicely with the date of the sword.

If this is the case then there are better places to look for service history as the owner's career dates are out of scope for this forum. If you Google "r j c kenny" you can get a copy of his cadet entry at Sandhurst, for example.

hi john many thanks for your prompt reply and for your info im very impressed :o and yes the maker is wilkinson sword .i am away from home until monday morning but i can post some pics on monday morning when i get home . martin
