Martini Henry Mk I markings

Hi

Would appreciate thoughts on the stampings found on the butt of my Mk I MH.

I bought the rifle from an Alberta museum about 15 years ago (they were selling off some of their non-related collection)

I always thought it was GG for Grenadier Guards but the more I look the more it looks like CC?
