Can any one guess the regiment. I suppose he is from 15th Lancers (Cureton's Multanis) also known as 15th (Cureton's Multani) Regiment of Bengal Lancers but I may be wrong. Any guesses ?

You are correct, the device on the pouchbelt identifies the regiment as the 15th Bengal Cavalry (Cureton's Multanis). they became a lancer regiment in 1890. Trooper

Hi

The FIBIS Fibiwiki has this jpg link, which may be enlarged, which is a painting by Major A. C. Lovett, but there is no date given.

Maureen, the uniform in your picture is post 1890. The chains and pickers on the pouchbelt were adopted when the regiment became lancers in that year. Prior to 1886 the uniform was rifle green with red facings. Trooper

As can be seen in the photo, the 15th did not wear prickers on the pouch-belt, in fact there was a silver badge of crossed lances over which was a star with the numerals "15", and under this Cureton's Mooltaees

Thanks trooper, Maureene and acanthus. Now that I look closer i can see the silver badge of crossed lances and the chains matching the uniform at this link http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php?title=F ... s_Multanis).jpg

Can you people guess the rank of the lancer ? I have no clue as to the rank of the person.

You will need to gain access to an Indian Army List; best for one of the years between say 1903 and 1909, and your man should be listed on the page for the 15th; my 1914 list is to late and he's already gone.

Thanks again. I will try to get hold of an Indian Army List for the years between 1903 and 1909. I know his name because he is my Great Grandfather's father. Locating him would be easy in the list.

Could he be a Risaldar Major ? Because I think I have a faint childhood recollection of my Grandmother once telling me that he was a Risaldar Major in the Multani Resala.
