Sorry, but I could not find anyone of that name in the 21st nor did a search just using the Regt No. find anyone.

Thanks Martin, now that poses an interesting question! I have found his service record and it clearly states that he is in possession of the Crimean war medal with clasp for Sebastopol, Turkish Crimea medal and LSGC. Its odd that he isn't on the roll, could he have been missed off accidentally?

I'm not convinced that Ancestry has the full roll for the 21st since I was only able to find a list of officers, so if you have his service record I would be inclined to believe that he was awarded the medal as stated.

That makes sense, I would imagine that his record is reliable. Its interesting to note that the Ancestry rolls may not be complete.

Thanks Martin

The roll for the 21st Regt is almost entirely absent from Ancestry, and I have messaged them several times to no effect.
TNA can't help because digitised rolls are now stored off site, and Ancestry would have to access them in order to update anything, and they clearly can't be bothered :x

However, the good news is that I have my own copies of the rolls and can confirm that 3871 Pte Thomas Arnold earned a Crimea medal with Sebastopol clasp.

You can download the medal rolls for free from the National Archives website.
