Hello Annette

The unit as you've written it is for the 2nd battalion 4th Foot, not the 24th Foot. If it was the 24th Foot then there would be no slash between the '2' and the '4'.

I've confirmed this on the medal roll on Ancestry. The 4th Foot did not fight at Isandlwhana.

Not knowing the medal's condition or his history the value is £5-600.

Anne

His service record is available on Find my Past and confirms the award of the SA 1879 Medal, but just to clarify your second post is more accurate, since Thomas Taylor served with the 2nd Battlion 4th Regiment of Foot not the 24th Regt.

try a dealer like Chris Dixon or Chelsea Military Antiques - both have websites, otherwise eBay, gumtree and the like.
