Hi Paul:

No way of knowing really as most of the other companies were Horse Transport companies too. If he was really good with horses then I can quite easily see him drafted to the Remount Depot where new horses were sorted and trained ( not " broken!" ) Here he could have used his " horse sense " to identify problem animals as well as initiate other beasts into the life of a draught animal. Have you not been able to find his service record at The National Archives? If it survived then it should be under WO97 and it would mention to which Company he belonged and when.
